Thursday night Washington Township Police Officers were on patrol on US Route 33 near State Route 720 when they stopped Kody Kerns, 29, of Lakeview, for a license plate violation.

When officers spoke with him, he consented to a vehicle search.

Kerns exited the vehicle, began making threats to harm himself, refused to identify himself, and was not following the orders of the officer.

He then began to walk away, and officers advised him he was being detained.

As officers attempted to place Kody into handcuffs, he began to pull away.

He actively resisted officers’ attempts to handcuff him.

During the struggle, Kerns bit a Russells Point Police Department Officer.

Eventually, he was handcuffed and transported to the Logan County Jail.

Kerns was charged with assault on a police officer, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest.

The Russells Point Police Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, and Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
