A West Liberty man was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while impaired after a late-night traffic stop in Bellefontaine.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers saw a white Ford pickup truck traveling southbound on Ludlow Road shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

The truck was reportedly speeding, crossing the centerline multiple times, and weaving within its lane.

Police also learned the vehicle’s registration had expired in April.

The driver, identified as Steven Adams, 56, of West Liberty, was stopped after pulling into a ditch along the roadway.

While speaking with Adams, officers reported Adams showed several signs of intoxication.

Adams told police he had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening at a bar.

He then failed several field sobriety tests, was arrested, and taken to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he consented to a breath test.

The tests showed breath alcohol concentrations of 0.082 and 0.078, according to police.

Officers noted his alcohol concentration would have been higher at the time of the traffic stop.

Adams was cited on OVI-related charges and later released to a sober driver.
