Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose says another 75 voter registrations have been removed from the state’s voter rolls after a citizenship verification process.
The removals are part of an ongoing voter list maintenance effort that uses state and federal records, including information from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Social Security Administration, and the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE, system.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, records identified for review are individually investigated, and SAVE records are manually reviewed before a final determination is made. The office’s Public Integrity Division also reviews the information.
The state says eligible voters who may have been removed in error can challenge the cancellation by providing proof of citizenship. If the cancellation was improper, the registration can be restored.
The Secretary of State’s office also says Ohio has long-term access to the federal SAVE system for citizenship verification.
The latest 75 removals come as Ohio continues broader voter-roll maintenance ahead of the November election.
Separate from the noncitizen review, the state is also working to remove abandoned registrations through its general voter records maintenance program.
