On April 8th, Logan County is in the path of totality for the solar eclipse.
When the moon lines up with the sun, blocking all of its light, a total solar eclipse occurs.
This is called the path of totality, where the total solar eclipse is visible.
The event is such a big deal that local schools and several workplaces in Logan County are off to witness the excitement.
We are expecting an influx of visitors that may double or triple our population that day (i.e., an additional 80,000 – 100,000 visitors).
In Ohio’s history, the last total solar eclipse was 218 years ago in 1806.
The eclipse will last for approximately 3 minutes and 38 seconds long and we will be in total darkness just after 3 pm.
Many events are planned for the area, below are the details:
- Darkness Tour- West Liberty-Experience the 2024 Eclipse and Total Darkness Tour at the Ohio Caverns. The Ticket includes a tour and entrance to the park with spectacular eclipse viewing and eclipse glasses!
- Wright on My People Solar Eclipse Gathering- Bellefontaine- Don’t miss this event which will be held in the Bellefontaine Recreation District at Myeerah Nature Preserve- Lake Shelter from 2-4 pm on April 8, 2024.
- The Solar Eclipse at the Top of Ohio- Bellefontaine
- A Moon Glow Over Main Street- Downtown Bellefontaine
- Indian Lake Brewing Company Solar Eclipse Party- Russells Point- April 8, 2024, will be a total solar eclipse and Indian Lake is going to be one of the best places to view it! We’re planning an amazing celebration that day with a special beer or two for the event. So mark your calendars, call off work, and get excited for this once-in-a-lifetime event!
- The Moonshade Festival- Village of West Liberty- 3-day village festival to celebrate a total solar eclipse. Variety of things to do to enjoy the small-town charm of West Liberty with a firework show.
- Solar Perspectives- West Liberty- A demonstration will be held at 11:30 and 2:00 using a six-foot model of Mac-A-Cheek Castle to show how the moon casts a shadow as it moves between the sun and the Earth. Participants will discover how the land surrounding the Castle has changed since 1806 when the last Total Solar Eclipse was visible here and envision how they hope it might appear the next time this site is in the path of Totality.
- Chris Funk– Redefining Wonder- Bellefontaine- Chris Funk’s REDEFINING WONDER is a perfect way to celebrate the total eclipse – an experience that will have audiences talking and scratching their heads for years to come! This multimedia magic show with live music has met rave reviews on shows including NBC’s America’s Got Talent and performances from Planet Hollywood to Rio.
- Moon-Day at Indian Lake- Lakeview- Join us for Moon-Day at Indian Lake in Downtown Lakeview and the surrounding area with a 4-Day Solar Eclipse Celebration! Monday, April 8, 2024, “MOON-DAY” there will be a TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE and Indian Lake is going to be one of the best places to view it! Plan on grabbing your friends and family, heading to the lake for the weekend, and staying through “MOON-DAY” where you will experience 3 minutes and 38 seconds of total darkness as the moon appears to totally obscure the sun. Several area restaurants and retail shops are organizing an amazing celebration that weekend with entertainment, special deals, and event swag. So mark your calendars, call off work, and get excited for this once-in-a-lifetime experience! Many area businesses are excited to collaborate and bring you a MOON-DAY-inspired experience to the Indian Lake Area and Downtown Lakeview!

Helen Norris, Director of the Logan County EMA says that the eclipse will bring extra people to our community to view the phenomenon.
Norris warns that traffic may be difficult and cell phone service may be limited.
