The Logan County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) of Wilmington held a Severe Weather Spotter Training session Thursday night at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.
Logan Clark, a meteorologist with the NWS, led the session, teaching volunteers about cloud formation, how to identify different types of severe weather, and how to assess wind speeds during storms.
Over 50 local volunteers attended, eager to learn how to become storm spotters.
The training gave participants the skills needed to report real-time weather observations to the NWS and other authorities.
This valuable information helps improve the accuracy of weather warnings and responses.
EMA Director Helen Norris talked about the importance of having trained volunteers:
As trained spotters, volunteers will play a key role in helping the NWS track and report severe weather.
Their observations will help keep the community safe by allowing authorities to respond quickly to storms and other weather threats.
