A traffic stop in Russells Point Friday evening led to the arrest of a New Carlisle man after K9 Tega helped law enforcement discover fentanyl and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle.
According to reports, a Russells Point Police Officer was on patrol on North Orchard Island Road around 6:15 p.m. when he saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in a posted 25-mph zone.
Radar clocked the vehicle at 37 mph.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as 62-year-old John Switzer.
During the stop, the officer reported noticing that Switzer showed several signs of drug use.
Due to Switzer’s behavior and the circumstances of the stop, the officer requested assistance from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Tega.
According to the report, K9 Tega was walked around the vehicle and alerted to the passenger-side door, indicating the presence of narcotics.
Switzer then admitted there was cocaine inside the vehicle.
During a search, law enforcement officers found a white rock-like substance in the center console that field tested positive for fentanyl.
Officers also found chore boy inside a film canister, which is typically used in drug use.
Switzer was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.
He is facing charges of possession of drugs with a fentanyl compound, a fifth-degree felony, and drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
