A 26-year-old Bellefontaine man was arrested Sunday night after police investigated a reported theft at Walmart.
He is also a suspect in two separate thefts at Lowe’s involving nearly $700 worth of tools.
Bellefontaine Police were called to Walmart on South Main Street around 9:44 p.m. for a report of a possible stolen knife.
A witness told officers he saw Juan Cruz open a knife package and leave the aisle.
Police later found a Gerber utility knife in Cruz’s possession.
Officers stopped a vehicle leaving the parking lot and questioned Cruz and another man.
The other man provided a receipt showing his purchases had been paid for.
Cruz was taken to the Logan County Jail and booked on two theft charges.
Police also identified Cruz as a suspect in two thefts at Lowe’s on South Main Street in September.
On September 7, a DeWalt tool kit and a Klein Tools set worth a combined $498.98 were reported stolen.
On September 11, a DeWalt circular saw and saw blade worth $193.98 were reported stolen.
The total value of the tools was $692.96.
The Lowe’s investigation remains ongoing.
