Man CareFlighted after serious chainsaw accident in St. Paris

A man was flown to a Dayton-area trauma center after suffering a serious chainsaw injury Monday afternoon in Champaign County.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 12:20 p.m. to a residence in the 11000 block of Possum Hollow Road in St. Paris on a report of a man who had cut his leg while using a chainsaw.

When deputies arrived, they found the man sitting in his driveway holding his injured leg with a piece of paracord wrapped around it in an attempt to stop the bleeding. A deputy applied a tourniquet to the victim’s left leg until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Johnson-St. Paris EMS crews and the JSP Fire Department responded to the scene and provided treatment. Deputies reported the injury was severe, with a large wound to the victim’s left leg and bone visible.

The man was reportedly cutting wood on the property when the accident occurred.

Due to the extent of his injuries, CareFlight was requested to the scene. The victim was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment.

In an update following the incident, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office said the man remains in stable condition. Officials also thanked all responding agencies for their quick response and teamwork and wished the victim a full and speedy recovery.
