A man was flown to a Dayton-area trauma center after suffering a serious chainsaw injury Monday afternoon in Champaign County.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 12:20 p.m. to a residence in the 11000 block of Possum Hollow Road in St. Paris on a report of a man who had cut his leg while using a chainsaw.
When deputies arrived, they found the man sitting in his driveway holding his injured leg with a piece of paracord wrapped around it in an attempt to stop the bleeding. A deputy applied a tourniquet to the victim’s left leg until emergency medical personnel arrived.
Johnson-St. Paris EMS crews provided treatment at the scene. Deputies reported the injury was severe, with a large wound to the victim’s left leg and bone visible.
The man was reportedly cutting wood on the property when the accident occurred.
Due to the extent of his injuries, CareFlight was requested to the scene. The victim was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment.
No additional information about the man or his condition has been released.
