A Bellefontaine man is facing felony charges after police say he returned to a residence where a civil protection order was in place against him and became involved in a physical altercation with a woman.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department report, officers were called to the residence early Wednesday morning after the woman reported that 46-year-old Derrick Bordner had returned to the home while she was sleeping.
The woman told officers Bordner was in bed next to her when she woke up and that he began arguing with her.
She said Bordner grabbed her by the hair, shoved her back onto the bed, and blocked her from leaving the room.
The woman told police she attempted to call 911, but Bordner took her cellphone.
She then tried to use her Apple Watch to contact emergency services.
Police say Bordner eventually threw the cellphone and left the residence on foot.
Officers later located Bordner hiding in a shed behind the residence.
Police confirmed through LEADS that a court order prohibiting contact between Bordner and the woman was still in place.
The woman told officers she wanted to pursue criminal charges.
Bordner was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Police later determined the order was technically a post-conviction no-contact order rather than a civil protection order.
After consulting with the Bellefontaine Municipal Court prosecutor, officers continued with the charges.
Bordner is charged with violation of a protection order, a third-degree felony, and disrupting public service, a fourth-degree felony.
According to the report, Bordner also has two prior convictions for violating a protection order, which elevates the current protection-order charge to a felony.
