Maries’s Candies: Cherished Treasure Born of Tragedy

When local farmer Winfred King contracted polio in 1956 and could no longer care for his farm, the entire West Liberty community came together to help.

As a humble way of saying thanks, his wife Marie made chocolate treats for everyone around.

Rebecca Craig is the granddaughter of Marie and Winfred and co-owner of Marie’s Candies in West Liberty. She, with her brother, Shannon, likes to keep things special, just the way Marie did.
It all starts when the customer opens the door.
Marie’s Candies is open year-round at their home at the old rail station on US 68 in West Liberty with a special treat for all seasons of the year.
