Officers from the Bellefontaine Police Department received information that a wanted man was in a city apartment complex, Wednesday evening around 5:30 PM.

Several officers responded to an apartment in the 500 block of East Columbus Avenue, and it was determined that Kyle Richardson was indeed inside and armed.

Richardson had active warrants for 2nd-degree Felonious Assault as well as a pick-up order through the State of Ohio Adult Parole Authority.

The home and several others around it were evacuated by authorities.

Special Response Teams from the Bellefontaine and Logan & Union Counties, along with Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene.

Authorities were able to briefly speak with Richardson, and then there was a long period of silence.

After several failed attempts to once again communicate with Richardson, including attempts made by crisis negotiators, non-lethal gas was deployed into the residence.

When Richardson did not exit the home, a robot with a camera attached entered the apartment and showed a male on the floor laying motionless.

The Special Response Team then entered the residence and confirmed that Richardson had passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Logan County Coroners office responded to the scene and Richardson’s body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroners office.

Authorities were on the scene for over eight hours.
