ODNR Invites Outdoor Enthusiasts to Join Next Natural Resources Officer Recruit Class

Are you passionate about the great outdoors and interested in a career dedicated to protecting Ohio’s natural treasures? The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is now accepting applications for its next class of Natural Resources Officer cadets. Whether you’re an experienced law enforcement professional or ready to start a fulfilling career, now is your chance to apply. Applications are open through December 31.

“Natural Resources Officers are the heart of our mission to keep visitors safe and ensure they have memorable experiences in Ohio’s incredible outdoor spaces,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “This is a chance to join a dedicated team committed to serving others and safeguarding our parks, forests, preserves, and waterways.”

Natural Resources Officers play a vital role in law enforcement, public service, and education across Ohio’s state parks, forests, preserves, and waterways. From patrolling scenic trails to ensuring safety on the water, officers spend their days protecting people and the environment.

Applicants who advance through the hiring process will complete a specialized training program focused on ODNR operations. They will then attend the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy. Certified peace officers in Ohio will bypass the academy and proceed directly to field training.

ODNR is seeking active, outdoor-loving individuals eager to blend their passion for nature with public service. Candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years old, and possess a valid driver’s license.
Hold an associate degree, complete an undergraduate core program, or have relevant experience in natural resources, criminal justice, environmental law enforcement, or military service.
Pass a background check, medical and psychological exams, a drug screening, and meet physical fitness and swim standards.
