Each year, the Division of Wildlife stocks about 12,000 brown trout in the Mad River, attracting anglers from across Ohio to Logan and Champaign counties.
Mary Mertz, the Director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, explains more about the event and its importance to the ecosystem.
The river is one of only a few streams in Ohio that support brown trout fishing.
Its clean, cold water and annual stocking program have helped make it a popular destination for anglers.
Joe Conroy, the Wildlife Program Manager for the Ohio Division of Wildlife, describes the process in raising the trout before they are released into the river.
The event will highlight the Mad River’s unique trout fishery and the partnerships that help maintain the fishing opportunity.
The event was held at the Mad River near the intersection of State Routes 29 and 296, north of Urbana.
