Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Director Stephen D. Dackin have announced the launch of Ohio’s new Statewide Attendance Dashboard, a public online tool designed to provide up-to-date school attendance data across the state.

The dashboard, available at Attendance.Ohio.gov, will update weekly and allow users to view statewide attendance trends as well as chronic absenteeism rates by district, school building, and grade level.

Governor DeWine said the goal is to give families, educators, and community leaders better information to help improve student attendance and outcomes.

“Every child in Ohio deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and that starts with being in school,” DeWine said. “This dashboard is a tool for the entire community… to help students show up, stay engaged, and succeed.”

The tool breaks attendance into four categories:

  • Satisfactory (absent less than 5% of school hours)
  • At-Risk (5–10%)
  • Moderate Chronic Absence (10–20%)
  • Severe Chronic Absence (more than 20%)

Officials say a student is considered chronically absent when they miss at least 10% of the school year, even for excused absences. That equals roughly two to three days per month or nearly a full month of school by year’s end.

Director Dackin said Ohio is among the first states in the nation to offer weekly updated attendance data in this format, calling it a major step toward early intervention.

State education data shows more than 25% of Ohio students were chronically absent last year, with even higher rates in some urban districts.

The dashboard was developed through a partnership between the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network, with support from the Ohio Education Computer Network and Information Technology Centers statewide.

Officials say additional districts are expected to be added as schools continue updating their reporting systems.

The dashboard is live now at Attendance.Ohio.gov.
