Wednesday afternoon, Bellefontaine Police responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver near PNC Bank. The caller indicated that a man, later identified as Christopher Overholt, 41, of Zanesfield, was exhibiting signs of impairment, including stumbling and a noticeable smell of alcohol.

According to police reports, Overholt had attempted to cash a check at PNC Bank before leaving in a black truck, which was later found parked at Middlefield Bank. When officers arrived, they noticed a dark blue Chevrolet S-10 registered to Overholt. The vehicle was unoccupied, prompting officers to wait in the parking lot for Overholt’s return.

Upon Overholt’s exit from the bank, officers approached him. Despite his denials of alcohol consumption, officers observed signs of impairment. Overholt claimed he was on prescription medication but insisted he was taking it as directed. When asked for permission to search his vehicle, Overholt initially consented but later retracted his approval, admitting to having marijuana inside.

During a preliminary investigation, Overholt was subjected to standardized field sobriety tests, where officers noted limited signs of impairment. Overholt attributed his nervousness as the cause for these signs, maintaining that he had not consumed alcohol.

K9 Pyro arrived on the scene and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. As the officers prepared to search, Overholt disclosed the presence of Xanax pills in the center console and a glass pipe near the driver’s door. The search yielded two blue pills identified as Alprazolam, a controlled substance, along with a glass pipe containing burnt marijuana residue.

Further checks revealed that Overholt had a prior conviction for possession of drug abuse instruments, which elevated the severity of the current charge.

Overholt was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule 4 controlled substance, a felony of the fifth degree. He was taken to the Logan County Jail.
