A 19-year-old West Liberty man is facing multiple charges after deputies found him unconscious behind the wheel of a running vehicle parked in the roadway Tuesday morning.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called just after 7:30 AM Wednesday to the intersection of Township Road 175 and County Road 47.
When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle stopped in the roadway facing oncoming traffic.
The driver’s door was open, and the vehicle was still running.
The driver was identified as Leland Henry.
Deputies reported that Henry was unresponsive and appeared to be asleep behind the wheel.
A tray containing what appeared to be marijuana residue was found on his lap, and a marijuana pipe was also seen inside the vehicle.
Deputies also reported smelling the odor of alcoholic beverages.
After several attempts to wake him, deputies were eventually able to rouse Henry.
According to the report, he appeared confused, was unsteady on his feet, and refused to perform field sobriety tests.
Henry was arrested and charged with physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
During the investigation, deputies also discovered two empty alcoholic beverage containers in a nearby field near the vehicle.
Authorities transported Henry to the Logan County Jail, where he agreed to submit to a breath test.
However, deputies reported that multiple attempts resulted in improper samples, and no valid test result was obtained.
Henry was later charged with having physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated, parking in the roadway, and underage consumption.
After being processed, he was released to a sober driver and given a mandatory court date.
