The Village of Russells Point will receive $525,619 for sidewalk and pedestrian crossing improvements along U.S. Route 33 through a statewide roadway safety program announced Thursday by Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The project will improve sidewalks and pedestrian crossings along the busy U.S. 33 corridor through the village, making it safer for residents and visitors who walk through the area. Construction is currently scheduled for 2031.
Russells Point is one of 33 transportation safety projects in 23 Ohio counties receiving a share of $72 million through ODOT’s Highway Safety Improvement Program. The projects will be funded between State Fiscal Years 2027 and 2032.
Governor Mike DeWine said the projects focus on locations where serious and fatal crashes are most likely to happen.
“These projects target the types of crashes that are most likely to result in death or serious injury. By investing in proven safety countermeasures, we’re making our transportation system safer for everyone.”
The statewide awards include 13 intersection safety projects totaling $46.8 million and 20 pedestrian and roadway departure projects totaling $25.3 million. Improvements will include roundabouts, turn lanes, upgraded intersections, better signs and pavement markings, high-visibility crosswalks, sidewalks, and bike lanes.
The Highway Safety Improvement Program targets roads with a history of serious and injury crashes, funding projects that are proven to reduce crashes and improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
