Storms cause damage across Champaign County; Flooding in Logan County

Severe storms rolled through Champaign County Tuesday morning, knocking down trees and power poles and leaving more than 7,000 AES Ohio customers without power; see the outage map HERE.

Strong winds and heavy rain moved through the area, causing widespread damage and creating difficult conditions for residents, motorists and emergency crews.

The storms have significantly impacted the Champaign County Fairgrounds.

Fair activities were halted as crews assess and deal with extensive damage throughout the fairgrounds.

Downed trees and power lines have been reported in multiple areas of Champaign County, with utility crews working to restore service and clear hazards.

The storms also brought heavy rain to neighboring Logan County, where several roads are flooded.

Motorists are being urged to use caution and avoid driving through standing water.

The full extent of the damage across both counties is still being assessed, and additional information on the status of fair activities and power restoration is expected as crews continue their work.
