A traffic stop in the 1600 block of E. US Highway 36 in Urbana led to multiple drug-related charges against a London man after officers reported finding marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
According to the Urbana Police Division, an officer observed a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling at a high rate of speed and crossing both the center and fog lines before initiating a stop at the Speedway parking lot on Scioto Street.
The driver was identified as Patrick Gordon. During the stop, officers reported detecting the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Gordon allegedly provided officers with a bag containing marijuana and a marijuana smoking device, and officers later located additional marijuana, vape devices, and residue inside the vehicle during a search.
A probable cause search also turned up a prescription bottle with residue, additional baggies with residue, and a cut straw. Police later reported the straw tested positive for methamphetamine during a field test conducted at the police station.
Gordon told officers he had used marijuana shortly before driving and was evaluated for impairment through standardized field sobriety tests, which reportedly showed no signs of impairment at the time of testing.
Gordon was charged with a marked lanes violation and transportation of marijuana and is scheduled to appear in Champaign County Municipal Court on May 26, 2026.
