A two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon temporarily shut down a portion of South Main Street in Bellefontaine.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, the crash occurred just before 4:00 p.m. near the entrance to the Kroger parking lot.

Police say a 2023 Kia Soul driven by Jonathon King, 28, of West Liberty, was traveling northbound on South Main Street when a 2009 Honda Accord operated by Ian Schmidt, 20, of Bellefontaine, entered the roadway from the Kroger parking lot and failed to yield the right of way.

The collision caused heavy damage to both vehicles and temporarily closed Main Street while emergency crews responded.

King was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by the Bellefontaine Fire Department with possible minor injuries.

Schmidt was cited for failure to yield.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
