The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that happened Monday evening in Auglaize County.
The crash occurred around 6:38 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Route 65 and Santa Fe New Knoxville Road.
According to the Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation, a 2018 Dodge Charger driven by 26-year-old Benjamin Pruyn of Marysville was traveling east on Santa Fe New Knoxville Road when it failed to stop at a stop sign.
The Dodge struck a northbound 2021 Chevrolet Malibu on State Route 65, driven by 19-year-old Victoria Schweitzer of Deshler.
After the crash, the Dodge traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a stop sign and came to rest in a cornfield.
The Malibu traveled off the right side of the roadway and also came to rest in a cornfield.
Schweitzer suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the Malibu, 18-year-old Brian Boggs of Jackson Center, was transported by ground ambulance to Lima Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Pruyn and his passenger, 18-year-old Mia Mills of Marysville, suffered minor injuries and were not transported from the scene.
The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Auglaize County Coroner, St. John’s Fire Department, St. John’s EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Nelson’s Towing assisted at the scene.
The Highway Patrol says alcohol or drug impairment is not suspected.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
