Urbana City Schools has announced three finalists for its next superintendent: Carla Shaw, Dr. Katina Childers, and Dr. Amy Boston.
Community members will have the opportunity to meet the candidates and ask questions during a public meet-and-greet on Wednesday, April 29 at the Urbana High School Auditorium. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with each finalist appearing at a designated time throughout the evening.
Carla Shaw will begin the event at 5:30 p.m. Shaw currently serves as assistant superintendent for London City Schools, a role she has held since 2023. Prior to that, she was the district’s director of virtual programs and innovation and also served as a high school assistant principal. Her career in education began as a physical education teacher at Hamilton Local Schools. Shaw holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Western Governors University and a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University.
Dr. Katina Childers will follow at 6:15 p.m. Childers is currently the high school principal and superintendent designee for New Lebanon Local Schools, a position she has held since 2022. Her previous roles include academic technology director and assistant principal at Sidney City Schools, along with several years of classroom teaching experience in Indiana and Ohio. She earned her Ph.D. in curriculum and teaching from Northcentral University and both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Wright State University.
Dr. Amy Boston will conclude the evening at 7:00 p.m. Boston serves as senior director of teaching and learning for Circleville City Schools. She previously spent a decade as director of elementary curriculum for Washington Court House Schools and has also held roles as an elementary principal, assistant principal and teacher at Westfall Local Schools. Boston holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Miami University, along with both a master’s degree in educational administration and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Ohio University.
Residents are encouraged to attend and engage with each candidate as the district moves forward in selecting its next superintendent.
