A 46-year-old Urbana man was arrested Sunday afternoon following an alleged assault in the city.
According to the Urbana Police Division, officers responded around 1:23 p.m. on September 6 regarding an incident involving Kion Hill.
Police were told Hill arrived at a residence on Windsor Avenue while another person was looking for a friend’s lost phone. Hill allegedly began arguing with the person before the situation became physical.
According to the report, Hill allegedly slapped the person in the face, pulled their hair, and poured beer on them. Officers reported seeing red marks on the person’s face, while their shirt was wet on both the front and back.
Police were also shown cellphone video of the incident. Officers reported the video captured Hill making derogatory comments toward the person and making statements indicating he had struck them.
Officers attempted to locate Hill at several addresses before finding him in the backyard of the Windsor Avenue residence. He was arrested and transported to the Urbana Police Division before later being taken to the Tri-County Regional Jail.
During an interview, Hill described the incident as a back-and-forth situation and indicated he believed the other person was also at fault. Police said Hill did not provide additional information and did not want to continue speaking if he was going to be charged.
Hill was charged with assault, a first-degree misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor; and menacing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
Hill appeared for arraignment in Champaign County Municipal Court on September 8. He entered a not guilty plea, and a plea hearing was scheduled for September 17 at 1:30 p.m.
Hill was ordered to be fingerprinted by the Urbana Police Division immediately and was released on a $1,000 bond.
