Champaign County voters will have an opportunity to hear directly from local candidates and learn more about issues on the November ballot during a Meet the Candidates Town Hall Thursday evening.
The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 17, at the Champaign County Community Center Auditorium, 1512 S. U.S. 68 in Urbana. The town hall is described as a non-partisan, citizen-led event featuring prepared questions focused on the future and concerns of Champaign County and the City of Urbana.
Candidates scheduled to participate include Urbana mayoral candidate Eugene Fields Jr., County Commissioner candidates Karen Bailey, Jacob McKee and Todd Woodruff, and County Auditor candidates John Patrick Ritchie and Nino Vitale.
The event will also feature presentations on two ballot issues: the proposed Champaign County Board of Developmental Disabilities tax levy and a proposed City of Urbana charter amendment concerning data centers. Organizers will also provide a brief update regarding the mayoral recall effort involving Mayor Bill Bean.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., giving residents an opportunity to submit questions for consideration. Selected questions will be presented during the candidate forums as organizers work to keep the event within its two-hour schedule.
Following the formal town hall, attendees will have an opportunity to speak with candidates one-on-one.
