A West Liberty-Salem student has earned a unique leadership opportunity through one of Ohio’s premier youth government programs.
Rising senior Madden Kilgore was selected to participate in the Ohio State Highway Patrol detail during the 88th session of American Legion Buckeye Boys State, held at Miami University.
Buckeye Boys State brings together outstanding young men from across Ohio each year to learn about government, leadership, and citizenship through hands-on experiences and simulations of state and local government.
As part of the program, the Ohio State Highway Patrol works with a select group of delegates, giving students an opportunity to experience the values of service, discipline, and leadership. Kilgore was chosen from an initial pool of 60 applicants, earning one of just 30 spots in the Highway Patrol program.
Following the week-long session, participants had the opportunity to interview for the Ohio State Highway Patrol Cadet Program, which will be held later this summer. Kilgore was one of only 15 students selected for the cadet program.
School officials said the achievement reflects Kilgore’s leadership, character, and commitment to serving others.
West Liberty-Salem congratulated Kilgore on the accomplishment and praised him for representing the school and community with excellence while taking advantage of opportunities designed to develop future leaders.
