Two people were injured in a serious crash involving a semi-truck Thursday morning at the intersection of State Route 31 and Miller Road in Union County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 34-year-old Miranda Ostrander of West Mansfield was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on Miller Road when she failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. Her vehicle was then struck by a northbound 2020 Peterbilt semi-tractor-trailer.

The semi was driven by 52-year-old George Gulledge of Dublin.

Ostrander and her six-year-old passenger were both taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Union County. The child, who was secured in a child safety restraint seat, suffered minor injuries.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The crash also resulted in a significant diesel fuel spill. Damage to the semi’s fuel tank caused more than 120 gallons of diesel fuel to leak onto the roadway. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency responded to contain the spill and handle the cleanup.

Several emergency agencies assisted at the scene, including the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Northwestern Fire and EMS, North Union Fire and EMS, and the Marysville Fire Department.

Kirby’s and Osborne Towing removed the damaged vehicles.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
