A semi-truck went off the road and down a steep embankment Wednesday afternoon, hitting several trees in Logan County.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. in the 7200 block of County Road 1.

Matthew Hardin, 30, of Brownstown, Michigan, was driving a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia southbound on County Road 1.

He told authorities he was traveling between 15 and 20 miles per hour as he approached a steep, curving hill.

Hardin said the road was wet, and when he applied the brakes to slow down, the semi began sliding.

The truck turned sideways, spun around, and then went off the right side of the road and down the embankment.

The semi hit a road sign and several trees before coming to a stop.

The truck was pulling a 53-foot car hauler trailer.

A Ford F-150 pickup owned by the semi’s owner was secured at the back of the trailer.

Tops Towing responded and removed the semi from the scene.

The recovery took more than an hour and a half, and the road was closed during the operation.

Hardin was not injured and was cited for failure to control.
