A Bellefontaine Middle School student shined at the State MATHCOUNTS competition at Columbus State on Saturday.

Eighth-grader Caden Yoder had an impressive top 1/3 finish in Ohio, finishing 55th out of 166 students.

The state held 13 chapter competitions in February. The top two teams and top four individuals from each chapter qualified for the state competition.

Yoder advanced as an individual in the Dayton Chapter Competition on February 17th.

Solon Middle School won the Ohio MATHCOUNTS state title and will compete in Washington, DC at the Regional MATHCOUNTS competition in April.

MATHCOUNTS is an after-school club that meets once a week for roughly an hour. Topics in the competition range from algebra, geometry, probability, number theory, and miscellaneous general math.

Lawrence Miller, a 2011 BHS graduate and engineer, coaches the team.

MATHCOUNTS is only available for 6th to 8th-grade students.

The 2024-2025 season will start at BMS after Labor Day. Contact Bellefontaine Middle School if your child is interested in joining MATHCOUNTS.
