Thomas Smith Signs with Alfred State College (Football)

Benjamin Logan senior Thomas Smith will continue his football career with the Pioneers at Alfred State College while pursuing a degree in Welding Technology.

A key contributor to the Raider football program, Smith said his decision came down to both academics and team culture.

“I really liked the culture of the football team and the welding program,” Smith said.

Smith developed into a college-level prospect during his junior season and credits his work ethic and coachability as strengths that will carry over to the next level. He is focused on making an immediate impact with the program.

“I want to make the biggest impact I can on the team,” Smith said.

Smith is the son of Curtis and Stacy Smith and played under Head Coach Paul Jenne.

Ashton Whitt Signs with Defiance College (Football)

Senior Ashton Whitt has signed to continue his football and academic career at Defiance College, where he plans to major in Sports Management.

Whitt, another dedicated member of the Raider football program, was drawn to the campus atmosphere.

“I love the small-town feel,” Whitt said.

Motivated by both his passion for football and academics, Whitt is eager to take the next step.

“I love the game of football and wanted to continue my education—so why not do both,” Whitt said.

Known for his work ethic and humility, Whitt aims to contribute immediately while continuing to grow.

“I plan to come in, compete, work hard, and contribute to helping my teammates succeed while also working on my personal growth as an athlete and student,” Whitt said.

He is the son of Adam and Cylie Whitt and was coached by Paul Jenne and Coach Fay.

Annika Chappell Signs with Wright State University–Lake Campus (Volleyball)

Annika Nicole Chappell will continue her academic and volleyball career at Wright State University–Lake Campus, competing for the Lakers while majoring in Environmental Science.

A multi-sport athlete in both volleyball and swimming, Chappell said the campus environment played a major role in her decision.

“Good tuition, smaller classes, no meal plan but dorms with a full kitchen, and the lake is right in our yard to study,” Chappell said.

After considering swimming at the collegiate level, Chappell ultimately chose volleyball following a strong senior club season.

“It made me realize that I would never forgive myself if I let volleyball go,” Chappell said.

She brings adaptability and a team-first mindset to the next level.

“I want us to play well and be a great team, but I mostly want to be beneficial to the team, regardless of my position,” Chappell said.

Chappell is the daughter of Annetta Chappell.

Sophia Harris Signs with Heidelberg University (Wrestling)

Sophia Harris will continue her wrestling career at Heidelberg University, where she plans to study Criminology.

A standout in the Raider wrestling program, Harris said she felt an immediate connection to the university.

“Because the campus was great, great academics, coaches, and I felt drawn there,” Harris said.

Her journey to collegiate athletics was fueled by both personal determination and a bit of family competition.

“My sisters and I made a bet on who would go to college for a sport—and let’s say, I won!” Harris said.

Harris is focused on continued growth and maximizing her potential.

“I expect to work to be the best I can be, never give up on what I love, and continue to learn and excel,” Harris said.

She is the daughter of Morgan and Donald Harris.
