Indian Lake Cross County hosted its home invitational Saturday, which got off to a cool and foggy start.
Coach Justin Metzger said, “It was kind of an interesting weather day with the fog and mist, but we were very happy to win our home meet held in memory of long-time ILMS teacher and junior high cc coach Jean Newmeyer who passed away from sarcoma cancer in 2018. Jean hosted youth fun runs and we are happy to continue the tradition today. It was a great last home race for our seniors Hannah, KaiLea, Makayla, Maggie, Grant, Tony, and Vince.”
The Lady Lakers won the meet with 52 points, Ben Logan was second (61 points) and New Bremen was third (62 points).
Lima Shawnee’s Jenna Stump was the individual champion finishing the 5K in 19:40 and setting a course record.
Reagan Rash led the way for the Lakers with a 2nd place finish (19:50). Rounding out the top five for the Lakers was Evie Wagner in 6th place (21:38), KaiLea Miller in 9th (21:50), Hannah Metzger in 13th (22:10), and Alicia Brielmaier in 27th (24:20). Also finishing was Makayla Motter in 41st (26:19), Maggie Reese in 48th (28:34) and Haley Metzger was 50th (29:09).
Lima Shawnee won the boy’s race with 35 points, New Bremen was 2nd with 47 points and Marion Local was third with 59 points. Indian Lakes boys team placed 6th.
The top finisher was Zach Wiedeman from New Bremen who set a 5k course record in 16:23.
The Lakers were led by Grant McPherson in 11th (17:57). Rounding out the top five was Titus Kelly in 23rd (19:02), Tony Cummins in 24th (19:03), Vince Wilson 40th (20:06), and Will Faler in 41st (20:09). Also finishing was Cason Lacher in 53rd (20:48), Daniel Wahl in 59th (21:20), Caleb Altstaetter in 61st (21:41), Owen Pummel in 72nd (26:00) and Hayden Hoffman in 76th (28:27).
The middle school girls competed well in the 2-mile race.
Allison Overmyer placed 6th (14:20 PR), Laura Metzger placed 8th (14:32 PR), Karlee Taylor finished 32nd (17:29 PR) and Emma Taylor finished 36th (19:05).
Top Laker boys in the 1-mile fun run race were Wyatt Mullins 4th grade (7:17), Gabriel Plum 3rd grade (7:24), Ayden Kindle 4th grade (8:02), Matthias Young 3rd grade (8:13), and Lincoln Nielsen 4th grade (8:19). Top Laker girls were Anaya Miller 3rd grade (7:44), Isabella Lamb 3rd grade (9:01), Josey Carroll 1st grade (9:46), Alexis Meeker 3rd grade (9:58), and Kentleigh Ross 2nd grade (10:05).
