Local Soccer Teams Compete with Mixed Results

Calvary Christian’s varsity soccer team dominated Jackson Center with a 4-0 win. Junior Nehemiah Dillon led the Spartans with a hat trick, and Trent Comer added another goal. Senior goalkeeper Preston Carnes earned his 6th shutout of the season, including a penalty kick save and two assists. The Spartan defense, led by Senior Josh Carnes, effectively stifled Jackson Center’s offense. The Spartans, now 7-1-1, will face Miami Valley at home on Monday night.

Indian Lake High School’s varsity boys soccer team secured a 3-0 victory over Marion Harding on Thursday. Avery Pequignot led the charge with two goals, while Chase Schaub added another. Assists came from Aidan Stinebaugh and Schaub. Goalkeeper Colten Corcoran recorded a shutout, and the defensive line, including Cameron Freyhof, Jacob Freyhof, Stevie Spofford, Cason Lacher, Gary Hutton, and Calvin Knief, played a crucial role in maintaining the clean sheet.

The West Liberty-Salem girls soccer team faced a tough challenge against Greenon and fell 0-3. Despite strong efforts from Audrey Collins, who had 8 saves, and Kaylee Blair, who added 1 more save, the Tigers were unable to overcome the Knights. The Tigers managed to hold Greenon scoreless in the second half. With a season record of 3-3 and 2-2 in conference play, the Tigers will travel to Bellefontaine for a match on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.

In boys soccer, West Liberty-Salem’s varsity team played to a 0-0 draw with Greenon. The Tigers scored a goal with 3 minutes left, but it was disallowed due to a foul. Goalkeeper Tucker Searles made 3 saves, and the defense limited Greenon to only 5 shots. The Tigers are now 4-2-1 and will next compete against Fairlawn this Saturday at noon.

Benjamin Logan’s JV soccer team was defeated by St. Mary’s 6-0. In the varsity match, the Raiders lost 1-0, with an early goal by St. Mary’s proving decisive. St. Mary’s improves to 5-4, while Benjamin Logan drops to 4-2-2. Coach Hughes noted that St. Mary’s put pressure on the Raiders early but acknowledged his team’s improvement as the game progressed. The Raiders look forward to returning to CBC play on Monday.
