Pirate patience prevails against Northridge, Falcons control Patriots in Tuesday softball

Riverside 13, Northridge 0 (5 innings)

Riverside cruised to a 13-0 run-rule win over Northridge, using patience at the plate and dominant pitching.

The Lady Pirates drew 21 walks, were hit by four pitches, and took advantage of nine wild pitches and 11 passed balls from Northridge.

Riverside scored seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by an Emilee Robinson triple. Three more runs came in the second, largely fueled by walks and hit batters, before the Pirates added three in the third with hits from Molly Carman and Emma Strayer.

Despite only recording five hits from five different players, Riverside consistently created offense with disciplined at-bats and aggressive baserunning.

Robinson was dominant in the circle, tossing a five-inning complete game with eight strikeouts. Northridge’s lone baserunner reached on a walk in the fourth.

Riverside improves to 9-11 and will travel to Lehman Catholic on Friday.

Graham 9, Archbishop Carroll 2

Graham snapped its seven-game losing streak with a 9-2 win over Archbishop Carroll, powered by an explosive third inning.

The Falcons scored first in the opening inning when Mariah Sizemore reached on an error and later scored on a Malynn Bacher triple.

Graham then broke the game open in the third with eight runs. Sizemore singled, Elizabeth Friis walked, and Bacher drove in another run before Abby Chamberlain and Sophia Fraley added key RBI hits. After Brinlee Middleton reached on an error to load the bases, Elena Portis crushed a grand slam to right field to cap the inning and make it 9-0.

Archbishop Carroll scored its only two runs in the fourth on back-to-back RBI hits, but Graham pitcher Abby Chamberlain remained in control. She threw a complete game, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out eight. Neither run was earned.

Portis’ grand slam highlighted the offense, while Bacher had two hits and two RBIs. Fraley added two RBIs, and Chamberlain chipped in two hits.

Graham improves to 5-12 and will face Indian Lake on Wednesday.

Northeastern 5, West Liberty-Salem 4

West Liberty-Salem suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 walk-off loss after giving up three runs in the seventh to Northeastern.

The Tigers scored first in the third when Kiersten Stoll walked, advanced on a wild pitch, and later scored on an error.

West Liberty-Salem added two more in the fourth. Taylor Cook walked to start the inning, and after two outs, defensive miscues by Northeastern allowed two more runs to cross for a 3-0 lead.

Another Tiger run scored later on an error in right field to make it 4-0.

Northeastern got on the board with a pair of two-out RBI singles to cut the lead in half, then rallied in the seventh. After two leadoff singles, an error in left field brought home one run, another error tied the game, and a walk-off double to center completed the comeback.

Kaylee Blair led West Liberty-Salem with two hits, while Karlee Lucas, Olivia Reichardt, and others contributed offensively.

West Liberty-Salem falls to 4-13 and has now lost nine straight.

Northwestern 10, Indian Lake 2

Indian Lake couldn’t capitalize on scoring chances in a 10-2 loss to Northwestern.

The Warriors scored twice in the first on a fielder’s choice and RBI groundout, then added another in the third for a 3-0 lead.

Indian Lake stranded the bases loaded in the second, but got on the board in the third when Kyler Carruthers blasted a solo home run to center.

The Lakers threatened again in the fourth after a MacKenzie Miller double and Izzi Mackesy walk, but couldn’t bring either runner home.

Northwestern pulled away in the sixth, scoring three runs on a fielder’s choice, RBI double, and catcher error.

Indian Lake answered in the bottom half when Kiylee Haude and Alya Brentlinger singled before Miller drove in a run with a single.

The Warriors added four more in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single, to put the game away.

Buyer and Miller each had two hits for the Lakers, while Carruthers provided the homer. Indian Lake falls to 5-13.

Jonathan Alder 19, Bellefontaine 2 (5 innings)

Bellefontaine fell to Jonathan Alder 19-2 in a run-rule loss.

Jonathan Alder piled up 17 hits, took advantage of two Bellefontaine errors, and capitalized on passed balls and wild pitches throughout the game.

The Pioneers scored two runs in each of the first two innings before Bellefontaine answered in the second. Brilee Joseph drove in the Chiefs’ first run on a groundout to cut the lead to 4-1.

Jonathan Alder then blew the game open with a 12-run fourth inning, recording nine hits in the frame, including a pair of multi-run home runs.

Bellefontaine added its second run in the fourth when Addison Wical tripled and later scored on a Joy Fogan groundout.

Jonathan Alder tacked on three more in the fifth to close out the 19-2 victory.

Wical and Fogan recorded Bellefontaine’s only hits, while Joseph and Fogan each drove in a run. Bellefontaine falls to 3-13 and opens a series with Urbana on Wednesday.
