Falcons tame the Tigers; claim D5 regional title

The Graham Falcons are D5 Regional Champions!

The bottom of the lineup helped the Falcons capture a 5-1 victory over the Ironton Fighting Tigers on Wednesday at Mason Middle School. Dylan LaFollette, Hayden Van Hoose, and Brody Jenkins combined for four of the team’s eight hits in the victory.

They scored one run and drove in three.

A single by Jacob Hughes put Ironton on the board at the top of the first.

The Tigers then committed an error in the bottom of the first, which helped Graham tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

The Falcons captured the lead, 5-1, in the bottom of the fourth after LaFollette singled to center field, Jenkins singled down the left field line, Van Hoose singled to the left side of the infield, and Owen Powell hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Adam Levy gets the win for Graham, giving up just five hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Ian Ginger takes the loss for Ironton.

The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and five runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out six and walking three.

Van Hoose and Jack Traylor each collected two hits for Graham.

Jacob Hughes led Ironton with one RBI and went 2-for-3 on the day.

Graham will face the winner of Thursday’s game between the St. Clairville Devils and Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs in the state semi-finals on Friday, June 13, in Akron.
