A man was arrested after he hit another man so hard that it left him unresponsive late Monday evening, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
Just before 9:00 PM, deputies responded to the 40 block of Willow Wood Circle after reports of an unresponsive male following an assault.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the victim, identified as Thomas Griffith, lying in a front yard receiving aid from witnesses who had begun CPR before responders arrived.
Griffith was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was later reported to be stable but unresponsive.
Investigators identified the suspect as Richard “TJ” Robinson IV, who was located nearby and taken into custody without incident.
According to witness statements, the incident followed an ongoing verbal dispute between the two men.
Authorities say the confrontation escalated after Robinson drove to the victim’s residence and struck Griffith once in the face, causing him to fall and lose consciousness.
Witnesses reported that no weapons were used and only a single punch was thrown.
Robinson was later interviewed and booked into the Tri-County Regional Jail.
He is facing charges of felonious assault and aggravated criminal trespass.
The investigation remains ongoing.
