Former Bellefontaine High School standout Kayla Watkins is continuing her golf career on the national stage as she competes for the University of Northwestern Ohio at the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship being hosted at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Watkins and the UNOH women’s golf team earned a spot in the national tournament and will compete in round two with hopes of making the tournament cut. Teams advancing beyond the cut will continue competing for a NAIA national championship.

During her career at Bellefontaine, Watkins established herself as one of the top golfers in the Central Buckeye Conference. She earned First Team All-CBC Kenton Trail honors four times and was named CBC Kenton Trail Golfer of the Year on three occasions.

Her success has continued at the collegiate level, where she has helped UNOH compete among the top NAIA women’s golf programs in the nation.

The NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship features the country’s top qualifying teams and individual players. The tournament is scheduled to conclude Friday, May 22, when team and individual national champions will be crowned.

Watkins enters day two looking to extend her season while continuing her pursuit of both a team and individual national title.
