125 years of service to Logan County celebrated

In 1901, a group of citizens from Bellefontaine was inspired to start a library. With the formation of a Board of Managers and a letter from steel magnate Andrew Carnegie promising to fund the construction and furnishing of a library building, the Bellefontaine Free Public Library was born.

125 years later, the Bellefontaine Free Public Library continues to be a pillar of Bellefontaine, adapting to patrons’ changing needs ever since.

The Knowlton Branch of the library hosted a celebration of service to the community on Wednesday morning.

A special part of the celebration was the burial of a time capsule near the flagpole, which will be opened in 25 years.

Other activities of the day included a special birthday party story hour for kids, family photos with Pete the Cat, crafts for kids, giveaways, light refreshments, library cards with the anniversary design, and a special display of the library’s long history in Logan County.
