Logan County Auditor Jack Reser is encouraging eligible homeowners to take advantage of the Ohio Homestead Exemption.

This program can significantly reduce property taxes for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and qualifying disabled veterans.

The Homestead Exemption reduces the taxable value of an eligible homeowner’s primary residence by $29,000, resulting in average property tax savings of approximately $400.

Qualifying disabled veterans are eligible for an enhanced exemption of $58,000, with average annual savings of about $800.

This year, homeowners who qualify for the Homestead Exemption may also receive additional relief through House Bill 479, signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine on June 24, 2026.

The legislation provides $350 million in one-time property tax relief for Homestead recipients across Ohio.

According to the State of Ohio, the additional credit is expected to average approximately $450 per eligible homeowner.

“Many residents may not realize they qualify for this program,” said Logan County Auditor Jack Reser. “For those who do, the savings can add up to hundreds of dollars each year, and this year’s additional one-time credit makes it an even better time to apply.”

To qualify through the standard eligibility pathway, applicants generally must:

  • Own and occupy the home as their primary residence as of January 1.
  • Have a total household income of $41,000 or less, excluding Social Security income.
  • Be 65 years of age or older, or be totally and permanently disabled by the end of the application year.

Additional eligibility provisions are available for qualifying disabled veterans and certain individuals with disabilities.

Auditor’s Office staff are available to help residents determine eligibility and complete the application process.
