Champaign County Prosecutor Kevin Talebi’s office has filed two delinquent tax foreclosure complaints involving the property formerly known as Urbana University, seeking to collect more than $428,000 in unpaid taxes.

According to a press release from Talebi, the complaints were filed October 21, 2026, on behalf of the Champaign County Treasurer. The action covers 29 separate parcels and names nine defendants, including Urbana Investment Group, LLC, Franklin University and seven other creditors.

The cases were filed in Champaign County Common Pleas Court, and the complaints seek to collect a total of $428,437.71 in delinquent taxes.

The named defendants will be served with notice of the complaints. If no further action is taken, the parcels could eventually be offered for sale through a sheriff’s sale auction.

Talebi said the foreclosure action is intended to recover unpaid public revenue and ensure property owners are held to the same financial obligations.

“It is unfortunate that the current owners have been unable to meet their financial obligations owed to our community. When an entity fails to pay its property taxes, we have a duty to pursue the remedies provided by law, including delinquent tax foreclosure. This action is being pursued to ensure that public revenues owed to our community are collected. Accountability is essential to maintaining public trust and treating all property owners equitably.”
