A Bellefontaine man was arrested early Thursday after police were called to a Speedway gas station about a man who appeared to be passed out in a parked vehicle.

At around 5:16 a.m., officers arrived at Speedway on South Main Street and found a black Kia SUV with a man, later identified as 27-year-old Joshua Bosley, of Belle Center, sitting in the driver’s seat. The car was still running, and Bosley appeared to be asleep or unconscious. Officers saw that he was breathing and tried to wake him up.

When Bosley woke up, he seemed confused and disoriented. His pupils were very large, and he had trouble answering questions. He said he hadn’t been drinking that night, but mentioned he had the night before. Bosley also struggled with simple tasks, like reciting the alphabet and counting backward, which are part of field sobriety tests.

Officers then searched his car and found two unopened cans of beer, a glass pipe with a white powdery residue, and an empty can of beer under the seat. Although Bosley denied using drugs, he said he had smoked marijuana a couple of days earlier.

Bosley was arrested for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI) after showing signs of being under the influence of something, even though his breath test showed no alcohol in his system at the time. A further drug test on his urine will determine if he had drugs in his system.

After the arrest, Bosley was taken to the police station, where he was given a criminal summons for possession of drug paraphernalia due to the glass pipe. He was released to a sober driver and given a court date.
