The Bellefontaine Parks Department Board of Trustees met in regular session Tuesday night and set August 16th as the closing date of the Hoffman Pool at Rutan Park. Parks Department Superintendent Rick Reed said the extension is primarily due to a two-week delay in the renovation start date. Reed said that he was informed that the company is delaying the project by two weeks, so the time was added back to the schedule.
Reed said that fall sports have begun practicing. He said that almost 200 have signed up for tackle and flag football as well as cheer, and nearly 300 have signed up for soccer. He said the numbers are consistent with past years.
Reed also said that he was made aware of an issue with playground equipment at Harmon Field. Upon inspection, there were several bolts that were not properly tightened at installation. He contacted the company that installed the equipment, and they came out the next morning and resolved the issue.
Reed also updated the trustees about signage that is in the process of being installed at all city parks. Reed said that the signs are intended to reenforce that the parks close at sundown and that E-Bikes are not permitted on park property. Reed said he is aware that E-Bikes are a hot-button issue all over the city, but he also has an obligation for the safety of all the users of the parks:
The board will also begin meeting to establish a budget for 2027 in the near future.
The next trustee meeting will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 7:00 PM in Bellefontaine council chambers.
