BCS Robotics fares well at State; two teams advance to Worlds

Bellefontaine City Schools had an impressive performance at the Ohio State VEX Robotics Championship, held at the United States Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, with both middle and high school teams showing great skill and teamwork.

On Thursday, March 13, and Friday, March 14, 58 middle school teams competed in eight qualification matches.

Bellefontaine’s Team 7865F, “Banana Boys,” finished with a 7-1 record, securing 4th place. Team 7865B, “It’s Whatever,” finished 11th with a 6-2 record, and Team 7865X, “X Force,” ended with a 4-4 record in 35th place.

The “Banana Boys” (7865F) teamed up with “It’s Whatever” (7865B) for the tournament.

As the 3rd seed, the alliance won their first two matches with scores of 29-16 and 23-3, but they were defeated by the #2 alliance in the semifinals.

In addition, Team 7865B earned the Innovate Award, which recognizes a unique or creative aspect of their robot or programming.

This award also qualified them for the world competition.

On Saturday, March 15, the high school competition began with over 100 teams.

Bellefontaine’s teams—9185C “Carnage,” 9185T “Terminator,” and 9185V “Venom”—represented the district well. In the Raptor Division, “Carnage” finished with a 6-2 record, placing 12th, while “Venom” ended with a 3-5 record, placing 40th. In the Nighthawk Division, “Terminator” also went 6-2 and placed 10th.

On Sunday, “Carnage” selected an alliance partner from Mount Vernon High School but was eliminated in the first round of the tournament.

“Terminator” teamed up with a partner from North Union High School, winning their first-round match 33-24, but they were defeated in the quarterfinals with a 14-19 loss.

All six teams demonstrated hard work, creativity, and problem-solving skills throughout the competition, proudly representing Bellefontaine City Schools.

The middle school teams were coached by Jordan Reser, while the high school teams were coached by Micah Woolf.
