Week 7 of the Bellefontaine Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy kept the class busy.
Thursday night, Detective Dwight Salyer and retired Detective Blake Kenner walked the class through a mock shooting just outside the Bellefontaine PD. Class members collected evidence and tried to determine what had happened at the “scene”.
After returning to the classroom, two community members ran through the classroom and performed a mock “shooting”. One-half of the class interviewed the witnesses of the “shooting” and was asked to detail the event.
In the end, the detectives expressed the importance of evidence collection at a crime scene and witness Interviews.
The Bellefontaine Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (BCPAAA) also presented to the group about what their group is all about and asked the group to join their cause. The BCPAAA is a diverse group of individuals who help support the PD and the citizenry through community events and volunteering.
Next week the class can look forward to learning about the use of force and firearm safety.
