The Champaign Community Foundation has awarded a $450 grant to the Summer Theater Camp for Youth in Urbana to provide scholarships for three students attending this year’s program.

The two-week summer camp serves youth ages 12 to 19 and focuses on developing communication skills, self-confidence, teamwork, focus, creative thinking, and leadership. Organizers say the camp’s mission is to encourage youth, inspire success, and help build the leaders of tomorrow.

This summer’s production will be Alice in Wonderland, marking the camp’s fourth year of operation.

Founder and Board President Lynn Adell Mirtes said community support for the program has grown significantly in 2026, helping strengthen its future.

“We may have turned a corner this year as many more businesses, organizations, and individuals made contributions,” Mirtes said. “We so appreciate their generosity and support.”

The grant is one of the Champaign Community Foundation’s final grant awards for 2026. The foundation, an affiliate of the Springfield Foundation, supports projects and programs that improve the quality of life in Champaign County.

Managed by a local advisory board, the foundation’s endowment fund generates ongoing support for organizations throughout the county. Foundation officials say endowment funds play an important role in sustaining programs and services that strengthen the community for future generations.

The Champaign Community Foundation welcomes contributions from individuals, businesses, and organizations interested in supporting local initiatives. Donations may be made through the Springfield Foundation and designated for the Champaign Community Foundation Endowment Fund.
