The Christmas Elves of Bellefontaine are getting a head start on the holiday season, preparing decorations since July.
The elves are volunteers who donate their time to help bring holiday cheer to Downtown Bellefontaine.
A little rain and drizzle Monday didn’t stop the elves from getting to work.
They decked the halls of downtown, adding lights, greenery, and festive bows to the fountain area.
Each downtown light pole also received a wreath, lights, and a bright red bow, adding another touch of Christmas color to the streets.
Behind the scenes, the volunteers have also been busy completely reworking 60 wreaths.
Each wreath was taken down to its bare wire before new greenery and lights were added.
Many of the wire frames also needed to be rewelded after years of use.
Reconstructing each wreath took approximately four and a half to six hours, making it a time-consuming project that began months before the holiday season.
The effort was also a community project, with several local businesses helping the elves, along with a few City of Bellefontaine employees who pitched in.
The decorating comes after the fountain was shut off, cleaned, and winterized on Friday.
That work was handled by the city’s Jack of All Trades, Joseph Jackson.
With the help of volunteers, local businesses, and city workers, Downtown Bellefontaine has taken on the look of a Hallmark Christmas movie, bringing an early dose of holiday magic to the community.
