Early Saturday morning, Logan County Sheriff Deputies responded to a domestic violence call in Rushsylvania after dispatch told them that a man at the residence had threatened to “kill his wife.”
When deputies arrived, they saw a man, later identified as Siataga Phillips, 27, of Rushsylvania, stumbling toward their patrol vehicle, showing signs of intoxication.
Based on his threatening statements and a recorded call in which he threatened to kill his wife, deputies arrested Phillips.
While speaking with Phillips’ girlfriend, Belinda Tonise, 26, also of Rushsylvania, deputies discovered that she had a warrant for her arrest from Union County for failure to appear.
She was also arrested and later transported to the Logan/Union County line where she was turned over to Union County Deputies.
Deputies learned that Phillips had not physically harmed Tonise and that she wasn’t concerned for her safety, so he wasn’t charged with domestic violence.
The situation changed when Phillips, who had been drinking heavily, became unresponsive in the back of the patrol car.
EMS was called, and after a short time, Phillips regained consciousness, claiming he was having trouble breathing due to asthma.
He was being evaluated by EMS when he became upset about Tonise’s arrest.
Phillips then jumped out of the patrol car and ran toward the backyard.
Deputies tried to stop him and repeatedly told him to return to the house.
Because of his disruptive behavior, Phillips was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.
When deputies tried to handcuff him, Phillips resisted and pulled away.
After a brief struggle, he was handcuffed and charged with resisting arrest, and then lodged in the Logan County Jail.
