Zavier Meeks, 33, of Bellefontaine, was arrested Friday afternoon on a public intoxication charge after police found him stumbling along South Detroit Street, according to a police report.
Officers were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. to the area of South Detroit Street and West Auburn Avenue after a caller reported seeing a man who appeared unable to keep his balance and was “walking out of his shoes.”
When officers arrived, they found Meeks walking northbound on South Detroit Street.
Police reported that he appeared disheveled, was carrying his shoes, and was stumbling as he walked.
Meeks also showed several signs of impairment, including slurred speech, difficulty standing without swaying, and a faint odor of an alcoholic beverage.
Officers further noted that Meeks had dried blood on his face and learned he had reportedly been involved in an assault the previous night.
When asked about his condition, Meeks told officers he felt fine.
Officers determined that Meeks was unable to properly care for himself and placed him under arrest for public intoxication.
Meeks was transported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, where he was lodged on the charge.
