A 40-year-old Bellefontaine man is facing domestic violence and strangulation charges following an alleged altercation with a woman on Monday.
According to a Bellefontaine Police report, officers were dispatched to an apartment on Bonnie Lane regarding a domestic dispute.
The victim told officers she and Ryan Arthur, of Bellefontaine, had been drinking vodka since about 2 p.m. and were watching a movie.
She said an argument began and alleged Arthur got on top of her, slapped her, and yelled profanities before strangling her with both hands for approximately three to four seconds.
Officers noticed and photographed a roughly four-inch red abrasion on her neck, along with smaller marks around her neck.
The victim told police she could not get Arthur off of her and threatened to call 911.
She said Arthur released her, got into his vehicle, and left when she called police.
She also reported that the two had previously been involved in physical arguments and alleged Arthur punched her in the chin the night before.
Officers later contacted Arthur by phone.
According to the report, Arthur admitted to slapping and strangling the victim.
Arthur later returned to the residence and spoke with officers after being read his Miranda rights.
He again admitted to choking the victim, although he said he used only one hand.
He also admitted to striking her in the chin the previous night.
Arthur was arrested for domestic violence and strangulation and transported to the Logan County Jail.
The victim later told a sergeant that she was unable to breathe for the three to four seconds she was being strangled.
