When 28-year-old Ellie Gilhorta saw a neighbor’s dog attacking her chickens in West Liberty, on Thursday, she took immediate action.
She grabbed the dog by its collar and was bitten twice on the right hand.
Gilhorta was able to confine the dog in her barn until deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office could arrive.
She said it was the second time the dog attacked her chickens, killing two of them in November.
Deputies contacted the owner of the dog, Sharleen Carter, who submitted the dog to the deputies.
Gilhorta was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital for injuries from the bites.
Carter was issued a summons and mandatory court date.
The dog was transported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office
