Early Saturday morning, Bellefontaine police received reports of a potentially intoxicated driver in a maroon Ford, swerving and fluctuating speed on North Main Street.

Officers found the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop after observing it cross the fog line. The driver, identified as Brandon Kerns, 31, of St. Paris, showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech.

When asked about his alcohol consumption, Kerns admitted to having “a couple” of drinks about an hour before the stop.

Despite his claims of being uncomfortable at his previous location, he struggled to provide coherent answers and exhibited erratic behavior.

He agreed to perform field sobriety tests, during which he showed significant impairment.

Given the circumstances, Kerns was arrested for OVI and transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department.

He agreed to a breath test, resulting in a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.196, more than two times the legal limit.

Kerns was issued a citation and released to a sober driver.

His license was suspended as part of the proceedings.
