The DeGraff Volunteer Fire Department is asking residents to take a few minutes to make sure fire hydrants near their homes are easy to see and access.
The reminder comes after firefighters noticed several hydrants blocked by weeds, shrubs, trees, and other overgrowth.
While it may not seem like a big deal, those obstacles can slow firefighters down during an emergency when every second counts.
In a social media post, the department asked residents to keep the area around hydrants clear so crews can quickly locate and connect to them if a fire breaks out.
The message was directed at DeGraff residents, but it’s a good reminder for everyone.
No matter where you live, keeping hydrants visible and free of debris can help firefighters respond faster and more effectively in an emergency.
Fire officials thanked residents for their help and support, saying that a little yard maintenance can make a big difference when crews are working to protect lives and property.
